Nein, der Sommer ist noch nicht vorbei…und auch die English Paper Piecing Projekte von Gesine und mir noch nicht ;o)…Nachdem ich mir aber eine ziemlich blöde Sehnenscheidenentzündung zugezogen habe, die sich einfach nicht auskurieren lassen möchte, musste ich eine kleine Pause beim Nähen von Hand einlegen und habe endlich die Zeit gefunden an einem weiteren kleinen Projekt von mir zu arbeiten – dem Drunkards Path….genauer gesagt einer charmanten Variante eben dieses ;o).
Das Problem, das ich bei den klassischen Drunkards Path Lineal-Sets immer hatte, ist genau das….es waren Sets. Die, die mich etwas näher kennen, wissen dass ich das „Kreative-Chaos“ in meinem Nähzimmer auf unheimliche Weise nahezu magisch anziehe…es ist wirklich so! Vormittags noch aufgeräumt und am Abend herrscht schon wieder Chaos…und da ist mir beim Rumspielen mit dem Block etwas aufgefallen, das mich echt gestört hat…ursprünglich war nämlich die Variante in folgendem Bild meine Version des Drunkards Path:
Sieht gar nicht mal schlecht aus, oder? Das schöne fluoreszierende Acrylglas, das ihr schon von meinen anderen Linealen kennt und auch wieder genau die auf Charm Packs ausgelegte Größe. Das einzige Problem war…es ist ein Set. Als ich es fertig hatte – und bevor ich es ausprobieren konnte nur einmal kurz in mein Nähzimmer gelegt hatte – trat leider ein klassisches Beispiel des berühmt berüchtigten zweiten Hauptsatzes der Thermodynamik ein….und ich konnte nur noch eines der beiden benötigten Lineale finden….nun ja…also auf die Suche nach dem zweiten gegangen es auch relativ zügig gefunden aber……moment….wo hatte ich das erste Lineal noch gleich wieder hingelegt?…Ihr seht…Sets und ich passen nicht so gut. Also habe ich mich wieder ans Reißbrett gesetzt, das Internet durchforstet und geschaut, ob es Alternativen gibt, die meinen Ansprüchen genügen: Einfach, einfach und….auf Precuts ausgelegt. Keine der Varianten war für mich wirklich zufriedenstellend…bitte versteht mich nicht falsch…es gibt wirklich schöne Ideen wie man Drunkards Path Lineale machen kann…aber eben nicht die Eine, die mir gefallen hat.
Daher habe ich mir „einfach“ eine eigene Variante überlegt….the Dudes Way of Drunkards Path quasi ;o)….und ohne viele Umschweife präsentiere ich euch…..Trommelwirbel…..mein neues Charming Drunkards Path Lineal:
Und fällt euch was auf? Man braucht tatsächlich nur ein Lineal für den Drunkards Path…und spart damit Material, Zeit, Nerven und natürlich Kosten :o).
Auch wenn ich gestehen muss, dass ich nach dem ersten Testblock das Projekt „Drunkards Path“ schon fast wieder in der Versenkung habe verschwinden lassen…und jedem, der die gleichen Bedenken hat und der vielleicht sogar schon in der hintersten Ecke des Nähtisches ein angefangenes Projekt liegen hat und dem die Sache mit den runden Nähten nicht so gut gelungen ist, verspreche ich: Es wird besser und einfacher und die Lernkurve ist wirklich sehr steil. In Nullkommanix habt ihr den Bogen raus, zaubert die schönsten runden Nähte und könnt kaum noch aufhören.
Und wie bei jeder Vorstellung eines neuen Lineals gibt es selbstverständlich auch ein kleines Beispielwerk anhand dessen ich euch kurz die Herangehensweise erklären möchte:
Wie ich bereits erwähnt habe, und wie der Name des Lineals vermuten lässt, ist es mit seiner Größe wieder auf Charm Packs bzw. Stoffstücke mit den Maßen 5 x 5 Inch ausgelegt. Ihr könnt also auch ohne weiteres einen Layer Cake benutzen und dessen Stücke vorher einfach vierteln. Die fertige Blockgröße beträgt 4,5 Inch. Legt man sich also ein Muster von 4 x 4 Blöcken kommt man auf eine Quadratgröße von knapp 45 cm x 45 cm und ist somit bei einer idealen Größe für Kissen. Oder bei einer schönen Grundeinheit für das nächste größere Quiltprojekt.
Und die Anordnungsmöglicheiten sind wirklich sooooooo vielfältig. Ich werde jetzt keine Übersicht bringen wie ich es mit den Half Square Triangles gemacht habe (zumindest noch nicht ;o)) …aber schaut euch doch einfach mal bei Instagram oder Pinterest um.
Wir starten zunächst mit zwei Charm-Squares mit jeweils einer Kantenlänge von 5″ x 5″. Ich wollte für meine Kissenhülle gerne die konvexen „Kuchenstücke“ des Blocks bunt und die Konkaven gegenstücke in meinem Hintergrundstoff haben. Als Erstes habe ich also das Lineal mit den Außenkanten an den Rändern des Hintergrundstoffs positioniert und die konkave Seite geschnitten. Im Anschluss habe ich die gestrichelten Hilfslinien auf dem Lineal an den Kanten des bunten Stoffs angelegt und die konvexe Seite geschnitten. Wie ihr das Lineal anlegen müsst ist aber auch noch einmal auf dem Lineal selber dargestellt.
ACHTUNG: Für die konkave Kurve rate ich zu einem kleinen Rollschneider mit einem Durchmesser von 28 mm. Bei den Größeren läuft man, wie bei allen konkaven Linien, Gefahr in das Lineal zu schneiden!!
Und nun sind wir auch schon bei dem Teil angelangt bei dem sich die Geister zu scheiden scheinen: dem Nähen der runden Nähte. Schaut man bei YouTube oder auf verschiedenen Blöcken findet man unzählige Möglichkeiten und Ideen. Man muss selber testen mit welcher man die schönsten Ergebnisse erzielt und welche für einen selbst am besten geeignet ist. Bei mir war es bei den ersten Blöcken ganz klar: so viel abstecken wie möglich! Nach ein paar Blöcken wurden dann die Stecknadeln immer weniger und am Ende bin ich bei ca. 3-5 Nadeln geblieben und bin mit den Ergebnissen wirklich sehr zufrieden.
Ich knicke beide Stoffstücke zunächst und markiere mir somit die Mitte der jeweiligen runden Seite. Die Mitten lege ich aufeinander und fixiere die Stofflagen mit einer Stecknadel. Wobei ich hier darauf achte nur einen kleinen Stich zu machen, damit die beiden Lagen gegeneinander noch rotierbar bleiben. Die nächsten zwei Nadeln kommen jeweils an den Anfang und das Ende der Naht. Diese möchte ich stärker fixieren und mache daher auch größere Stiche. Je nachdem was mir mein Bauchgefühl sagt, setze ich dann noch jeweils eine Nadel zwischen Anfang-Mitte und Mitte-Ende der Naht.
Nun zum Nähen: Ich finde es am einfachsten wenn ich die konvexe Seite nach unten lege und das Kuchenstück oben drauf. Ich mache zunächst zwei Stiche mit der Nähmaschine, entferne die erste Stecknadel und arbeite mich dann langsam an der Naht entlang, immer darauf achtend, dass ich keine Falten bei der unteren Stofflage, also der konvexen mit einnähe.
Ist die Naht fertig schaue ich mir diese noch nicht zuuu genau an…denn bei mir sieht es fast immer so aus, als hätte ich eine Minifalte irgendwo drin. Diese verschwinden aber in aller Regel beim Pressen der Naht mit dem Bügeleisen. Und dann sieht der Block so aus:
Garnicht sooo schwer oder? Find ich auch nicht ;o)
Das Einzige, was dann noch fehlt, ist das Auslegen des Puzzels und das Zusammennähen der Blöcke, das ich euch an dieser Stelle ersparen will. Bei mir ist es am Ende ein Kissen geworden. Inklusive kleiner Borte. Für den Stoff der Rückseite habe ich einen neuen Basic von Makower in Türkis genommen (der gleiche den ich auch als Hintergrundstoff für die Vorderseite verwendet habe, nur dass er dort Grau war ;o)). Das Endmaß beträgt ca. 44,5 cm x 44,5 cm. Als Füllung habe ich mich für eine etwas Größere vom Schweden mit 50 cm x 50 cm entschieden und dadurch sitzt die Kissenhülle schön stramm und das Muster kommt sehr toll zur Geltung:
Ich hoffe, euch gefällt der kleine Zuwachs zu meinen Linealen. Ich werde mich nun auch schon bald wieder hinter die Nähmaschine klemmen, denn das nächste Projekt steht schon fast in den Startlöchern (viele Grüße an dieser Stelle an Ruth ;o)).

Lieber Philipp, da ich ein absoluter Fan von „Optimierung von Arbeitsprozessen“ bin, liebe ich Deine Lineale sehr. Mit dem hier angesprochenen Lineal werde ich mich in der nächsten Zeit beschäftigen. Die zum Lineal bestellten „Ninja“-Charmpacks sind wunderschön und genau meine Farben.

eine schäne Idee, die mich richtig anspricht. Es ist zwar nicht der doppelte Drunkard’s Path (den bekomm ich bei Dir wohl nicht, bei Deiner Aversion gegen Sets), aber dennoch ein tolles Lineal. Ich glaub das bestell ich mir demnächst. Ich könnt mich auch noch für kleinere Endgrössen begeistern, denn je kleiner der Block, desto mehr benötigt man ein gutes Lineal.

Ohhhh… Wie toll. Es ist ja echt schlimm mit euch bzw dir. Es gibt hier ja inzwischen nur Lineale die man unbedingt haben will *lach*…. Ich sehe schon mein Wunschzettel für Weihnachten platzt bald aus allen Nähten. Aber das Lineal ist einfach sooo toll, das muss noch mit auf meine Liste *lach*.
