Like A Diamond In The Sky

Kaum ist Halloween vorbei, fangen auch die letzten Nachzügler an sich langsam Gedanken um die Weihnachtsdekoration zu machen. Auch wenn ich eigentlich kein Fan von der frühzeitigen Flut an Lebkuchen und Weihnachtssternen bin, und mir eigentlich erst im Dezember Gedanken über Dinge wie Fenstergestaltung etc. mache, habe ich mich dieses Jahr doch schon etwas früher daran gesetzt. Dieses Jahr sollen nämlich einige handgenähte Dinge zum Schmücken des Hauses herhalten und da ich nicht der schnellste Handnäher bin…nun ja…da muss man halt schonmal etwas vorplanen ;o).

Und da wir vor kurzem eine ganze Menge neuer Stoffe von Alison Glass aus der Sunprint 2017-Kollektion rein bekommen haben (die ihr HIER finden könnt) war die Stoffauswahl auch sehr schnell getroffen. Und so habe ich, der Weihnachtsdeko-Muffel, also vor ca. einer Woche mit den ersten beiden kleinen Projekten angefangen, die mit den neuen Allie And The Dude EPP Sets für 60° Diamanten wirklich einfacher waren als ich gedacht habe.

Den Start machte ein Diamantenstern, bei dem ich auch noch eine ganze Menge zum Thema Fussy-Cutting dazulernen konnte und den ich direkt in zweifacher Ausführung genäht habe. Die kleine „Fussy Cut-Erleuchtung“ zeige ich euch bei der ersten Sternvariante etwas genauer.

Für Variante 1, den großen Stern, benötigt man insgesamt 60 Papierschablonen und den entsprechenden Stoff. Ich habe mich hier für die Mini-Diamanten mit einer Kantenlänge von 3/4 Inch entschieden:

Man kann für die jeweiligen Diamanten natürlich jeden x-beliebigen Stoffausschnitt nehmen, aber ich wollte mich dieses Mal mal am Fussy Cutting probieren. Ich gebe zu, dass ich bislang nicht der aller größte Fan dieser Methode war. Denn vor allem bei den kleinen Diamanten hatte ich stets das Problem, dass die Muster nicht so zusammen gepasst haben wie ich es gerne hätte. Dies lag nicht am schneiden, das ist mit den Aussparungen und dem klaren Acrylglas der Schablonen überhaupt kein Problem: Man sucht sich zwei oder drei Referenzpunkte auf dem Musterausschnitt aus, den man gerne wiederholen möchte und schneidet los. Beim Kleben der Papierschablonen hingegen wurde es bei mir etwas heikel – vor allem bei einem Projekt, bei dem ich das Papier drin behalten möchte und das nicht gewaschen werden kann. Die Möglichkeit einfach auf die Rückseite des Stoffs – entlang der im Lineal enthaltenen Kanten – die mittige Position der Papierschablone aufzuzeichnen, führte bei mir zu mäßigem Erfolg. Denn sehr häufig führten die Markierungen zu kleinen, unschönen Farbpunkten auf der Vorderseite des Stoffs und waren am Ende doch wieder ein klein wenig „off“.

Dieses Problem kann man jedoch umgehen und spart sich noch den Schritt mit dem Einzeichnen der Mitte. Und das beste: Das funktioniert nicht nur mit den Diamant-Schablonen sondern auch mit unseren Hexagon und Summer-Meadow Sets. Und so geht man vor:

Man schneidet wie gewohnt die entsprechenden Stoffmuster mit der Schablone zurecht. Dann macht man einen ganz kleinen Klebepunkt auf die bereit gelegte Papierschablone. Dank dieses Klebepunkts (und hier braucht man wiiirklich nicht viel) kann man die Papier- auf die Acrylschablone kleben. Dank der Schlitze ist die mittige Positionierung hierbei wirklich ein Klacks. Im nächsten Schritt streich man die Mitte des Stoffstücks mit Kleber ein und muss dann nur noch die Acrylschablone bündig auf das Stoffstück pressen (selbstverständlich ist die Papierschablone hierbei zwischen Acrylglas und Stoff, und nicht auf der anderen Seite ;o)). Nun hilft man mit einem kleinen, spitzen Gegenstand nach und entfernt die Acrylschablone….et voilà…das Papier sitzt absolut mittig auf dem Stoff und man kann damit loslegen die Nahtzugabe umzukleben:

Da beim Zusammennähen des Sterns die kleinen Öhrchen der Nahtzugabe an den spitzen Ecken der Diamanten stören würden, ist es am einfachsten diese beim Umklappen der Nahtzugabe mit einzuklappen:

Mit den 60° Diamanten bekommt man eigentlich einen flachen 6-zackigen Stern. Bei diesem Projekt machen wir uns aber den Effekt zu Nutze der auftritt, wenn man einen dieser sechs Diamanten entfernt. Aus einem flachen Stern wird nämlich plötzlich eine kleine Schale mit 5 Zacken. Von diesen Schalen benötigt man insgesamt 12 Stück. Da leider kaum ein Bild, das ich vom Nähfortschritt gemacht habe zu gebrauchen ist (meine Kamera hat irgendwie rumgesponnen und mir ist es nicht aufgefallen) möchte ich euch an dieser Stelle für die einzelnen Nähschritte, die zu diesem wundervollen Stern führen, an den Blog von Jennifer Strause verweisen, nach deren Anleitung ich den Stern genäht habe. Im Internet gibt es aber noch eine Vielzahl weiterer, kostenloser Nähanleitungen für dieses Projekt. Der fertige Stern mit den wunderschönen Alison Glass Stoffen sieht nun also so aus:

Variante 2:

Bei der zweiten Sternvariante müssen lediglich 15 Diamanten vernäht werden und daher ist es auch kein Wunder, dass diese um einiges schneller von der Hand geht. Da ich hier nicht nach einem Tutorial gearbeitet habe, sondern einfach mal ausprobiert habe, kann ich nicht garantieren, dass mein Vorgehen das schnellste oder praktischste ist, aber für mich hat es gut geklappt und mit dem Ergebnis bin ich mehr als zufrieden. Also dann mal los ;o):

Wir starten wieder wie beim ersten Stern und bereiten uns 15 Diamanten vor. Auch hier wollen wir, wenn möglich, keine störenden Öhrchen haben und klappen den Stoff daher wieder, wie weiter oben beschrieben, um. Fünf der Diamanten sind für Zwischenräume gedacht und daher habe ich mich bei diesen für einen relativ neutralen „Grau auf Weiß“ Stoff entschieden. Da dieser Stern nur zwei Seiten haben wird, habe ich mich dazu entschlossen die einzelnen Schalen so bunt wie möglich zu machen und mich nicht auf einen einzelnen Stoff zu beschränken.

Zunächst nähen wir unsere zwei Stern-Schalen.

Bis hier her wars doch einfach, oder? Jetzt wird es ein gaaaanz klein wenig kniffeliger, aber alles noch im Rahmen ;o). Denn nun gilt es die beiden Schalen zunächst umzustülpen. Das Innere der Schalen wird also nun aus der linken Stoff/Diamantseite gebildet.

Und nun geht es daran, die beiden Schalen mit den neutralen Zwischenstücken zu verbinden. Da diese im fertigen Stern entlang der kurzen Diagonalen geknickt sind, presse ich diesen Knick schon jetzt mit dem Bügeleisen vor. Das vereinfacht das spätere Nähen etwas. Bitte KEINEN Dampf an dieser Stelle benutzen. Dadurch löst sich nur der Kleber. An diesem Punkt müssen wir uns auch überlegen, an welcher Stelle des Sterns später die Aufhängung angebracht werden soll, denn die Zwischenstücke jeweils links und rechts sind die ersten, um die wir uns jetzt kümmern:

Wir fangen mit dem ersten Zwischenstück „ganz normal“ an der Sternspitze an, die neben der Aufhängung sein wird und nähen Richtung Aufhängungsspitze. An dieser angekommen, dürfen wir nicht ganz zur Spitze nähen, sondern müssen die Naht ca. 0,5-1 mm vor der Spitze beenden, absichern und wieder zurück nähen:

Jetzt sind die beiden Schalen also mit dem ersten Zwischenstück verbunden. Nun kommt die nächste Seite neben der geplanten Aufhängung. Und die wird genauso dran genäht: Ich fange an der gegenüberliegenden Seite der Aufhängung an, halte ca. 0,5-1 mm vor der geplanten Aufhängungsspitze an und kehre auf der anderen Seite des Zwischenstücks zurück. Nach dem zweiten Zwischenstück müssen wir den Stern wenden. Dies ist durch das Papier etwas friemelig, aber es geht. Denn jetzt ist es Zeit die Aufhängung zu befestigen:

Da wir bei der Aufhängungs-Spitze nicht ganz bis zum Ende genäht haben, haben wir dort im gewendeten Zustand eine ganz kleine Öffnung. Ich verwende hier dafür ein relativ dünnes Seidenband, das genau durch das Öhr einer meiner größeren Nadeln passt. Diese führe ich nun vom Sterninneren durch die kleine Öffnung und danach wieder zurück durch das Loch, um an der Spitze eine Schlaufe aus dem Seidenband zu bekommen. Diese ziehe ich mir auf die gewünschte Größe und verknote das Seidenband im Inneren des Sterns mit einem Doppelknoten. Um ganz auf Nummer sicher zu gehen, dass sich der Knoten mit der Zeit nicht löst und die Schlaufe ggf. aus dem Stern rutscht, sichere ich den Doppelknoten noch mit ein paar Stichen. Einfach mit einem beliebigen Garn ein paar mal mitten durch den Knoten und das Seidenband stechen und ordentlich verknoten:

Da das Wenden mit nur zwei Seitenteilen schon eine knappe Sache ist, müssen wir die letzten drei Seitenteile von außen festnähen. Hier kann man entweder einen Leiterstich nehmen (von dem ich aber bei dem kleinen Stern abrate, da es eeecht sehr eng wird) oder einfach den normalen Wendelstich, den ihr beim Paperpiecing immer nutzt. Man sieht die Naht zwar ein wenig aber ich finde das ehrlich gesagt nicht so störend. Und wenn man feine Stiche macht und alle paar Stiche gut festzieht, fallen diese auch kaum noch auf und die zweite Variante ist fertig:

Ein kleiner Tipp noch für diesen Part: Ich sichere mir die Zwischenstücke vor dem Festnähen an jeder Ecke mit einem kleinen Knoten, sodass diese erstmal fixiert sind und sich nicht ständig das Zwischenstück verschiebt. Das mache ich mit dem gleichen Faden, mit dem ich auch die restliche Naht mache und den ich beim Rundnähen im Stern verschwinden lasse.

Und so „schnell“ ist ein kleines Sternornament fertig und wartet nun auf weitere, die ab Mitte Dezember unseren Weihnachtsbaum schmücken dürfen…zumindest die kleinen, denn der große Stern wird gleich verpackt und geht dann als kleine Überraschung an einen ganz lieben Bekannten ;o).

Ich wünsche euch eine ganz schöne Vorweihnachtszeit und mache mich jetzt an die Vorbereitungen des vorrübergehenden Auszugs unserer Helfer-Elfen…bei denen beginnt jedes Jahr um diese Zeit ein kleiner Nebenjob. Leider ist unser Elfisch immer noch nicht so gut, als dass wir genau verstehen würden, worum es sich dabei handelt…irgendwas mit roten Nasen, weißen flauschigen Bommeln und Spielzeug….ach ja und Glocken sollen wohl auch noch eine Rolle spielen…nun ja…wir wünschen ihnen aber auf jeden Fall eine schöne Zeit und hoffen, dass wir die nächsten Wochen gut ohne die Elfen in unserem Shop überstehen werden ;o).
